As per the agreement reached on February 22, India is going to supply 15,000 tons of urea to Nepal.
According to the information received by National Live TV, Nepal will get 15,000 tons of urea fertilizer in the first lot. The National Chemical Fertilizer (RCF) of India has agreed to supply the same amount of urea to the warehouse of the Agricultural Ingredients Institute at Birgunj.
Nepal has signed an agreement with the Government of India to purchase 150,000 tons of urea fertilizer annually. Nepal had been requesting to make manure available on ‘fast track’ as it would take a long time for India to procure and supply to Nepal through tender process.
According to the same request, the Indian government has agreed to supply its own ‘stock’ of manure immediately. Rajendra Bahadur Karki, general manager of the Agricultural Ingredients Institute, has been in India for a year to supply manure. Karki, who arrived in Mumbai for talks with Indian RCF officials, said the supply of the first consignment had been ensured.
“The first consignment will be supplied from Dhamra port in Orissa,” he said. He said that the transportation of manure will start within 10 days.
15 thousand tons is 3 lakh bags. It will require 6 freight trains with 42 coaches. RCF will also add freight to the price of manure. Manure will be transported to the dry port of Birgunj by freight train. Nepal will get fertilizer at the same price as India bought it from outside. The price list has not been fixed as the price of chemical fertilizer is changing day by day in the international market.
