It has been 21 years since the Narayanhiti Durbar massacre. On the evening of 19 June 2058, the then King Virendra Birvikram Shah and his family including Queen Aishwarya, Prince Dipendra and Nirajan and Princess Shruti Shah were killed inside the Narayanhiti palace. An investigation committee was formed with the then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Keshav Prasad Upadhyay and the then Speaker Taranath Ranabhat into the murder, which is considered as the most unimaginable and mysterious event in the history of Nepal. The committee had made public the report that Yuvaraj Dipendra Shah had shot at his own family and also committed suicide by shooting himself. Meanwhile, the late King Birendra’s statue has been commemorated with garlands and tributes. Appreciating the contribution made by the late King to Nepal and Nepalis during his tenure, the late King Virendra Peace Foundation, Yogi Narharinath Trust has laid a wreath at the statue at Jawalakhel in Lalitpur.
